Algiers

At least 11 UN workers died yesterday in Algiers, in an attack reminiscent of Baghdad in 2003. May they rest in peace.

When the furor dies down, the security noose will tighten even further, making it that much harder for UN workers all over the world to save the lives of those suffering in wars, famines and natural disasters. May they rest in peace too.

And as proof for the security noose getting tighter:

No Swedish UN-troops to Darfur, in part due to the Sudanese president describing them as agents for the USA and Israel (which would make certain statements made by the former Israeli ambassador to Sweden part of a cover-up, right...).

I'm sure the Sudanese army attack on a UNAMID convoy didn't help matters either.
